TODAY'S CHILDREN

With so many social issues around them, conflicts, poverty, terrorism and of course the constant reminder that climate change is threatening their future, children are said to be growing up too fast.
Do you agree?

  1. Hello,

I don't think that children are growing up too fast nowadays, because even though they have a lot of problems to face (which, by the way, has always been the case, as there have always been wars, poverty and natural disasters) like climate change, they seem to remain childish longer than children from previous generations. For instance, nowadays, children usually stay longer at their parents' house, and they start to work later.
Moreover, they have far more entertainment than children had before, thanks to the Internet and television, and I think most of them don't even realize there are so many problems around them. Perhaps terrorism can lead some children to "grow up too fast", as it affects everyone and can scare young children ; but I doubt that most children are aware of more abstract issues, like climate change or poverty, as it is harder to notice them when you're young.

    I totally agree with that.
I really think that all these problems are our fault: conflicts, poverty, global warming ...
These problems are threats to the future of children, but also to ours.
Our generation is less naive than the previous ones because we are growing with these problems.
We must act against all these threats to achieve a better world.

  3. Hi!
To begin with, social issues have always existed and there were times when they were propably worse than they are now. I think we just have to deal with different ones related to the current issues of our generation, and maybe we're just making more noise by demonstrating so it's more obvious and easier to be heard than the new adults sent to the fights in 1918 whom could not express their disagreement.
It might also be the influence of social networks over young people, indeed since the socialization of children mainly
lays on imitation, I guess children just want to act like their favourite idol by drinking alcohol or partying while still being underage or not mature enough. But I also agree with the previous answer saying that in fact children are not growing that fast and are quite spoiled until they are ready to leave their parents if they're not forced to.
On the whole, I partly disagree with that statement because to my mind, children just take advantage of a society with less strict rules loosened over the years, but it'd be hard to compare their level of maturity with the previous generations.

    1. Sorry I made a mistake : "easier to be heard than the adults sent [...]".
