For exemple, we studied "Dear Mr President", which is a song written by Pink, which was released in 2006 on her album "I'm not dead". The singer adresses to the President. And the song looks like a letter, or a speech. Afterward, "Dear Mr President" is a protest song, because Pink searches to denounce: the working condition, the bombs and the war, and the poverty and sadness. Then, at the beginning of her song, Pink looks well-intentioned, and she was welcoming, but at the end, she looks sad and discouraged. Furthermore, she uses rhetorical questions, which are like affirmative sentences, to address her felling about what the President didn't do; she doesn't expect any answer. So, yes, in my opinion, songs are a good medium for an author to express disagreement with political figures, because through their songs, they can send messages. The "we" in the Pink's song refer to the population, everyone, instead of the President's one. She wants to show how the life is hard and different from that of the President . Finally, the words which she is using have an impact on us, because Pink is telling the truth, and because there are strong words; and she try to surprise the public, and she wants a reaction.
To begin with, I think we all have the choice and the right to express disagreement with political figures. Singing is not just for fun but also for expression and a it's an artistic way to convey a message. This is what Pink did in her song, "Dear Mr. President", she tried to say all she had to say to the president. She is not only talking about one president, but all presidents are concerned in her song. She talks about homeless people who are living in extreme conditions and she asks the president how he feels when he sees all those poor people, or how he can sleep while all these terrible things are going on in the country and in the world. Pink did well to open the president's eyes in an artistic way, she tries to make him feel guilty and to shake him to do better things for the country and to rectify his mistakes. To conclude, songs are good medium for an author to express disagreement with political figures, because instead of doing it in a bad way for instance in a video or in the street or in front of the concerned person, she chooses to do it in an elegant way.
I think that songs can be a good medium to express one's political opninions, as they can reach a large audience if the song becomes popular. But it is important to remember that most of the times, people don't care much about a song's lyrics when they hear it, especially in countries where people don't speak English and don't understand what the song is about. Moreover, some people might hear a protest song and find its music very pleasant, but disagree with what the singer says. So I think that songs can express a political message, but most people will listen to them without paying much attention their lyrics.
I made a few mistakes, so here is the correction : I should have said "I think that songs are a good way to express one's political opinions" and "people don't care much about the lyrics of a song."
First, songs usually express (author's or people's) feelings or thoughts, and thanks to them, messages can be sending easly. In my opinion, I think that songs are not a good medium to express an author disagreement in general because, as we know, a lot of people don't listen to music, so our message can't be sent. So, I think that, the best way to let know our feelings, to express our disagreement with or even without political opinions, is to write a letter or even be interviewed. Be interviewed can be a better idea, because all of us watch TV, even the president then it's the right thing to do to let know what we're feeling.
Hello! Sorry, but I made some mistakes... Here is my correction :
- a good medium => a good way (l.3) - the best way to let know our feelings => to let our feelings known is to (l.5) - to let know what we're feeling => to let what we are feeling known
Here it is! Hope you'll have a good day :D Nesrine, 1s1.
