Do you think discrimination is still a problem in developed countries?

  1. To begin with, discrimination is a treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class or category to which that person or thing belong rather than an individual merit. Discrimination has always existed and today this subject is still a problem all around the world ! So, do I think discrimination is still a problem in developed countries ? Let's see.

First of all, I think discrimination is still a problem in developed countries, particularly in these places. In developed countries, on one hand, some persons are not interested in others. On the other hand, others insult a person which has a different religion or a different skin color ! Of course, this is not a generalization, but to my mind, this kind of people is more present in developed countries than in other countries.

To conclude, discrimination is still a problem in all countries ! However,it shouldn't be that. As a result, we learn even more, often at school, the importance of equality of all humans even if they are all different.

  2. Very interesting. Discrimination and developed countries, two terms that many of us refuse to combine. The sad truth is that discrimination in developed countries do exists however, it is not predominant. Why in developed cities you have white or black neighborhoods? Yea, right, I am cognizant of the fact that people are social beings and they will recline with their own where they are more comfortable.

Case in point, lets consider the recent headlines of Trayvon Martin who was killed by George Zimmerma. From the start of the trial the accusations laid was strongly on the side of discrimination. Was those accusations true, I don`t know but the point is that if discrimination did not exist it would not have been a reason thought of for the shooting incident.

For me personally, I do believe discrimination exist a lot but because of the consequences it is suppressed. Why do we have different churches for different color people, why do only a particular set of people shop in specific stores? I maybe wrong so I challenge the reader to show up somewhere that you know a certain set of people are and see the reaction and let me know how it went.

  3. I not only think it is a problem in developed countries but all over the world. In today's society especially in the classroom setting some teachers may favour students who are of high colour giving them more opportunities or "better treatment" This should be avoided and everyone should be treated fairly and equally. Persons also discriminate others who are not in the same class as them. For example you may find that some wealthy persons discriminate others whom they may consider "poor" and even scorn them. Instead we should try to elevate others so that we all can be successful and happy with each other.

  4. Today, discrimination is a problem. Discrimination is a prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age or sex. There are differences between developed and poor countries. So, is discrimination still a problem in developed countries ?

To begin with, discrimination is mostly a moral issue and must be resisted as a matter of principle in developed countries.
However, what is often overbooked is the economic impact of preventing women from participating actively (in the economy).
I don't think discrimination is a problem just in developed countries. The problem in developed countries is equal to poor countries. On one hand, women in poor countries are less « active » than in developed countries.
On the other hand, the problem of racial dicrimination is more important in developed countries because there's less migrations and racial mix than in poor countries.
Discrimination about age is also important in both kind of countries.

In conclusion, I think discrimination is not a question of richness or poverty but a question of education.
Now, we have to learn to young people equality between humans even if we are all very different from religion, sex, appearence...

  5. Discrimination is still a problem even in developed countries of the world today. Discrimination has been around even as long as the world itself, and the forms discrimination has taken have evolved to fit the times we're living.

I believe that in developed countries today discrimination has moved from archaic forms to more conventional forms. It’s not solely about racial prejudices and religious persuasions; it’s now more about gender inequality, educational background and scholastic aptitude.

Let's face it, the physical world isn't level anyways, but I don't believe its wishful thinking to hope it was that way. Man throughout the ages has accomplished great things, so a little equity is not inconceivable or unreachable.

  6. Discrimination is a very big problem in this world. It is still very present in several countries and that is important to realise. But it is also present in developed countries? And even if the answer is yes, it is more present than in the less developed countries?

Firstly, it's important to point out that discrimination is a problem and even if it has maybe evolved a bit, it is still a problem. There are different kinds of discrimination but let's talk about the one that is more serious: The differences of skin colors, religions, or nationalities. To my mind, discrimination in developed countries is the same as in the other countries, or maybe worse. What I mean is that, in developed countries people don't really care about each other and there are a lot of people that come from different countries. Therefore, some people reject, critic, insult or be violent with these people just because of their differences. These persons don't know the meaning of respect and they don't know everyone is equal.

To conclude, I would say that discrimination is a real problem and these bad and inrespectful behaviours are the same in developed or poor countries, unfortunalty.

  7. Discrimination is the fact to promote or oppose someone because of certain characteristics or some of his personal choice.Discrimination is illegal and punishable.Around the world, there's of course racial discrimination, religious discrimination, but not only.
Is that discrimination remains a problem in developted countries?
I think so.The "social" discrimination is well established in developted countries between men and women for equal work which doesn't have the same wages.
Even tough some countries are developted, there are inequalities between social classes, rich and poor,to access major schools, a job, a house...
Don't forget that in developted countries there are people dying of hunger or cold. It's unacceptable for rich countries like France or the USA .
There is also discimination against disabled people, even if efforts are made to facilitate travel by car or wheelchair.

In conclusion, i think that disciminaton isn't only a question of the skin color or religious practice,it's very a common fact in the richest countries that man is an individualistic person and selfish too.
Unfortunately that kind of discrimination is everyday around us.

  10. I think that discrimination is defiantly still around but it not as bad as it use to be in the past. I have never personally ever felt discriminated in my life but i have heard stories about discrimination present day and just by watching sports like tennis for example discrimination is still exists. But I do feel like it has gotten better.

  11. We all agree that discrimination still exists in developped countries, no arguments there. Why though ?
In my opinion it's natural in a certain way. Nature's biggest law is survival of the fitest and that has, in "civilised" people, come out threw mockery of the ugly and unfit. Some Humans also have an extremely negative personality. If they can help it or not they will always discriminate. Also, fear of the unknown and a negative generalised opinion of a few individuals encourage discrimination, sadly. And this, especialy in developped places. Finaly, as long as the notion of descrimination exists, so will it. Being told to not think something about a type of people also spreads that what one's trying to stop.
I am not giving any excuses for descrimination, it's stupid and only has negative turnouts, but rather pointing out that it is not something that will end soon.

  12. I agree with Deion, there are still cases of discrimination but there not as widespread. they may agree where the economy is less stable and people feel as though they are treated unfairly by the government

  13. I believe that racial discrimination is still present but it is not as noticeable as it used to be in the 50s and 60s. These days, you can see it in the inequalities of jobs and salary, lack of quality in education and healthcare amongst minorities.
