  1. Yeah, zoos are marvelous tools. Zoos are great ways to preserve biological organisms from extinction. This is one method of biological conservation.

  2. Of course zoo's have a purpose. They are there to preserve the animals existence and for others to observe these wonderful creatures. If these zoo's wasn't here to preserve the lives of these animals than our children ,children wouldn't now what they look like;and the quickest way for people to learn is by observation.Tourist especially love to visit attraction sites .Peoples curiosity beguile them and they have a most fulfilling life. :) More ways to show people the most amazing attraction sites in the world is to """" VISIT JAMAICA.""""""""""""""""""""

  3. Disagree, reason being this is the place where children and individuals go to see variety of animals that they have never see before. This place also incorporate family unity and our natural ecosystem, it also show the habitats of our animals etc.. so i total disagree with that thesis. http://lemwill40.blogspot.com/

  4. Before to start to talk about the subject, I would like to thank Archie Hylton, Jewel and Lemar Williams, generally Jamaicans and Americans for their help ! I saw the two different " blogs " and they are very interesting and don't worry I would like to visit Jamaica like many people !

A zoo is a place where there are many animals. Does this place have an interest ?

First of all, I disagree that a zoo has no useful purpose. Indeed, a zoo is a great place that allow some persons to have fun or to see new things ! For example, generally, children who go to a zoo are very happy to discover animals that they don't know like lions, ostriches, giraffes... Maybe some adults go to a zoo to relax and have a break !
However, I agree that a zoo has no useful purpose. I think that it's very crual to confin animals in a cage whereas in the nature , they are free ! On top of it, it's a touristic place so usually animals are not well maintained ! For instance, when I was younger, I went to a zoo and I saw monkey which looks like very sad and the cage was very dirty !

Finally, I disagree but at the same time I agree that a zoo has no useful purpose for these many reasons.

  5. A zoo is a facility in which animals are in enclosures or sometimes in relative freedom. Today, there are more than 2000 zoos around the world and 350 millions people visit them each year. Have zoos useful or unuseful purpose ?

On one hand, zoos are useful for many reasons :
-children (especially) can see wild animals in reality. They can also learn more about them.
It's hard to see girafas or lions in reality, except if you travel.
-zoos take care of endangered species and animals by reproducing themselves.
For exemple, pandas are endangered species. Their territory were reduce and they couldn't eat enough. Chineese government decided to react : now pandas are saved thanks to artificial insemination.

On the other hand, zoos have an unuseful purpose because animals don't have enough place to live correctly. Sometimes, animal enclosures are dirty and they look very sad.
An other exemple is Marineland ( park with dolphins, polar bears and other sea animals in Antibes, next to Nice). It is a sort of zoo but animals make shows. I think we should be in animals' mind : it would be horrible for us !

In my opinion, there are advantages to zoos but it is better to see animals in liberty, by doing trecks or safaris.
At the most, I prefer zoos where animals are in relative freedom.

I would like to thank Jamaincans for their help. I saw your blogs and it is really nice .
Like Clara said I would like to visit Jamaica and I think everybody would like too !

  7. A zoo is a place to see wild animals, to discover nature and to have fun, so has a zoo no useful purpose ?

First of all, I completely disagree with the statement : a zoo has no useful purpose.
A zoo is a place for children, parents, grand parents... : it's a good way to spend time with you family or with your friends. But there is a recurrent debate about it : are they really good for the animals ? On one hand, we all think about tiny cages and sad animals, which are there to advertise the visitors more than living peacefully ! But on the other hand, a lot of zoos around the world do a remarkable job in preserving the species, so, several animals now exist only in captivity but no longer in the nature. For instance, the panther of China wouldn't exist anymore if zoos didn't exist, so it is a great way to save severals animals. Of course, sometimes, some animals are badly treated, but it happens very rarely because zoos are very controlled. Moreover, it is a great way for children to discover new animals and to have fun, for example, I remember that I spent great days in Marineland, and I learnt a lot of things about nature and animals when I visited zoos. And they contribute to the economy of the region, it helps the region increase the tourism and the profits.

To conclude, I disagree with the sentence : a zoo has no useful purpose.

  8. A zoo is a place where you can see lot of animals who come from all over the world but does a zoo have a purpose ?

Zoo is a wonderful invention which permit to people to see animals they couldn't see in every day, discover new animals when you are child is awesome, that's one of the purpose.
Then it's a good way to preserve the endangered species because in zoo the animals have everything they need, like food, water and good treatment if they are sick.
Zoo is great thing but we have to be careful of the treatment of the animals because if we don't many species will disappear and it's not he purpose of the zoo

In conclusion, yes zoo has an useful purpose, so I disagree with the sentence "A zoo has no useful purpose"

  9. A zoo is a place where you can see a lot of different biological species.
But does the zoo has useful purpose ?

I think that the zoo has many purposes.
The zoo had been first created to permit people of urban places to discover exotic animals or plants from all around the world from the savannah to the artic lions or penguins. It was a great success especially with the family.
But at the begging it had been use sometimes to expose indigenes from French colonies like the kanak.
There are also animals preservation: some of animals or plants breed had been save thanks to zoos for example a white monkey in Spain.
But according to some people from ecological movements the animals are unhappy in captivity but to my mind animals don't care about it because they are fed and well treated

To conclude the zoo is a great place to discover animals or plants for everybody. The main purpose of the zoo is the family entertainment and the animals preservation.

  10. Hi Sophie, I really agree with what you say! There are both useful and harmful aspects to zoos. I like how you pointed out the idea of safaris and trecks. This way, we can still experience animals while they enjoy a more natural environment better suited to them.

  11. I believe that zoos have many great purposes. They are great places for people to view and learn about different animals, and they also help preserve species. However, some people believe that zoos are more harmful than beneficial. Some people believe that zoos actually cause some species to become endangered since zoos are taking animals from the wild, and some also think that keeping animals in captivity is cruel. Although keeping animals in captivity can be cruel, modern zoos do a great job of creating enclosures for their animals that are very similar to the animals' natural habitats. Most zoos these days also get many of their animals through breeding programs in order to prevent species from becoming endangered.

  12. I strongly believe that zoos have specific purpose. Zoo provides entertainment to children and adults alike. Zoo's are ways in which humans get to see animals they have only seen on television.

  13. A zoo is a place where there are different kind of animals. So does a zoo has a useful purpose?

First of all, animals deserve to be respected and well-kept. A zoo is a good place for them. Indeed, they are fed, looked after. That's why, one should not forget that first point.

Moreover, zoo attract many tourists each year in any country. Families are satisfied to make discover their children new animal species. It's not very common to see ostriches, tigers, giraffes in everyday life. Therefore, to see those animals in person is extraordinary and unforgettable.

By contrast, we have to wonder if all those animals would be happier outside, in liberty without none barriers. We must weight the pros and the cons to answer this issue. As for me, I'm not able to answer it and to give an objective opinion.

To conclude, I'm not strongly opposed to keep animals in a zoo if they're well-kept despite they would be gladder in liberty.

  14. Traffic of rare or endangered animal species is the second most important one after drug dealing , if poachers can't be stopped ,then zoos are necessary to preserve a gene pool for some species. Otherwise rhinos for instance will soon disappear from the earth surface.

  15. I disagree with that statement because it helps to broaden your information about animals by visiting them in person. It is also a great opportunity for kids and families to go have fun and see animals you do not usually see in your area. In America, we do not usually see animals such as Giraffes, Monkeys, and rhinos and the zoo is a great opportunity to see those animals and learn about them.

  16. I do believe that zoo have its own purpose and as for me it is an learning environment because you get to know the different types of animals their purpose and even how to take care of them, most people love animals and keep them at home but don't have a basic idea how to take care of them, but I do believe that persons at the zoo are trained in that capacity so they would be able to inform us when we go to the zoo how to take care of the animals, what type of food to give them, and their housing facilities.

  17. As we know a zoo is a place for animals so therefore I am in total agreement that zoo has its significant purpose because children can expand their knowledge on a zoo and learn that it has many benefits and for most adults as well. Most importantly children can learn about animals not only from books and television programs but from actually seeing them alive in reality. I think it is an incredible experience for a child. That child can gains more knowledge and experience from this and even learn to communicate with some of the animals. Secondly I would say that a zoo can be a great opportunity for an adult to see many animals that they were not able to see before. A zoo serve many purposes even for security reasons such as to keep the dangerous animals in a cage and to prohibit them from causing damage, I also think that most family would enjoy a nice family tour at the zoo to watch animals of different types do amazing things. so yes a zoo has its purpose.

  20. I think the "zoo" has more than many purposes but the main purpose is to entertain and to allow not only children but adults to have an idea of how each animal is structurally created. It gives individuals first hand experience of viewing these animals, animals they may have seen only on the television. There is a zoo located in St.Elizabeth, Jamaica, It has many animals including lion that i have never seen apart from on the television. So it does allows us to have first hand experience. The environment is spacious allowing each species of animal to have their own space which i think is great! The zoo is always filled with children as they are fascinated by each animal and they also get to touch some of them bringing their imagination and curiosity to life.

  21. Ultimately, I believe that zoos are very useful and necessary for preserving different species of animals and educating young people about them. Though some may find captivity cruel and unusual, the zoos are very good at making good living conditions for these creatures so they are not living as slaves to the zookeepers. The animals are well-fed, they are kept together with other members of their species, and they are surrounded by an environment created by the zoo that is similar to their natural habitat.

  22. It's difficult to take position …

On one hand, I disagree with the statement. Zoo allows people to discover animals which are unknown. Thus, people who don't have ways to travel can also see exotic animals. For example, during the colonial exhibition of Vincennes in 1931, the French people were able to discover people, animals, foods stemming from the colonies. It's the first contact between two civilizations : European civilization and civilization colonized.
However, it creates discrimination between people who come to see and those are seen. At Vincennes, the exhibition makes possible the existence of the human zoos. Humans are not considered like Human being, but like an object. Visitors contribute to create that, because they want to see foreigner civilisations, but other people want to consider that as entertainment. Also for animals, it's cruel to think that it only objects or things made to be seen and exposed.

  23. I think that zoos have great educational purposes. It enables not just children, but everyone to see and learn about animals that they would not be able to see in everyday life. From what I have seen at local zoos, the living conditions of the animals are not cruel because they live in large wide open spaces and have food and protection provided. I think that learning about all animals, native and exotic, enables kids do care more about their beauty, importance, and protection, and therefore take the initiative to care for them.

  24. Today, the zoos are multiple vocations establishments: they are a place of relaxation and divertissement, a breeding and research center for the conservation of threatened speciesc and a center for initiating animal obseravtion and awareness-raising and the biodiversity.
But I think we can not really love an animal if we let it live under such conditions. I desagree with the fact that zoos allow you to learn more about animals. What we learn is distorted. An animal in captivity, does not behave the same as if it were in its own environment. So we do not always understand what is needed, or reality. The fact that it keeps alive species is only an excuse for me. If species are endangered it is largely because of us, humans. I think it's better to fix the problem than to postpone it. The causes of their disappearances should be stopped or at least reduced.
