"Black Beauty" written by ANNA SEWELL

Why do you think the book is classified "Human Interest" in Oxford Bookworms Library and not "Animal Interest"?

  1. The animals have a important place in that story. It's by a horse's point of view that history is told, although it's talking about humans valors and comportements.Black beauty it's a book which denounce some human's acts, like cruelty or selfishness, and highlight some other, like kindess or patience, thought their comportements with animals.Finaly it's an animals story for humans because humans can asking themselves plenty questions about how their act with animals and with the other peoples.
So the two classifications are wright. In my opinion "human interest" significate that Black Beauty it's interesting as much for mankind and animals but Oxford Bookworms Library choose to highlight the human benefice:for them this book can pearhaps change mentalities, about animal conditions or other things.

  2. "Animals have an important.....we have the horse's point of view..... the story is told... although it is about humans' values and behavior.... denounces some humans' actions.....highlights some others....kindness... according to how animals are treated by their owners/masters..... Finally..... can ask (without "ing")themselves....how they treat animals and other people.... are right..... "human interest" means....that "Black Beauty" is both for mankind and animals....humanity.... perhaps.."

  3. Black beauty is the main character. But in this story we can see how men treat their animals. I agree with Morgane; this story denouces cruelty to animals particulary to horse. If owner doesn't like look after horses, why have a horse. What we need to understand of this story, is that animals feel sadness, fear and anger. It's a beautiful story which can call into question the behavior of men to animals, that is why it is classified in "Human Interest"

  5. Black Beauty was written by Anna Sewell approximately in 1850. She wrote this book at the end of her life. So, what does she denounce in this book ?
First, in the book, there are lots of personification. But the most important I think it's for the slaves. For example, at the beginning oh the story, Black Beauty's parents work for a "master". When horses are in the field they saw the master's house. Indeed the mother of Black beauty said he's a good horse and he must always work. And during all the story, we can see that Black Beauty work hard for his master.
As a result, I think Anna Sewell used Black Beauty to personify Slaves at first, however I think she would like to denounces the bad condition oh horse's life too

  6. This book is classified "human interest" because it teaches to humans to be good with animals and to care about them. In the book, black beauty feels feelings like humans, it thinks like us. I think Anna Sewel wanted to say us: "Imagine you were a horse, would you like to be treated like this?" and it works, because the book make us think about animals and their place in the society.
