Hello, I hope you enjoyed your holidays and Halloween !
Some people are against the celebration of Halloween.
First, they think it can make young children afraid and traumatize them.
Moreover, it’s another commercial celebration which invites us to spend money on costumes whereas we are encouraged to reduce our textile consumption to preserve our planet.
And you, what do you think about this ?
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed Halloween as much as I did. I really don't think that Halloween is a "bad holiday". To me it is a holiday where we get to dress up and be someone we are not for a day. If a young girl wants to be a princess or a fireman, this is her day to do it! And usually on Halloween the really scary costumes only come out at night once the younger children are fact asleep so I don't see this traumatizing them. However I have to agree with the fact that it does consume unnecessary textiles and forms unnecessary waste. But we can reuse our costumes either as hand-me-downs or for different occasions like Carnaval or for costume party's that our young siblings or cousins invite us to.
Also, I'm not personally against commercial celebrations because I think they're holidays that have no religious or cultural affiliations which makes them available to all and don't exclude or hurt anyone.

Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteI strongly disagree with that pessimistic opinion on Halloween, from my point of view we shouldn't take it too seriously because its main purpose is to be pure entertainment. As a matter of fact, no one forces anyone to celebrate it, because there's no beliefs behind, it is just a great occasion to have fun with your friends, or meet and greet new people.
Then, it's too easy to blame a rather more or less commercial celebration when we are the first celebrating Christmas and buying new clothes or shoes to brag on. Plus, some people in order to have fun once again, like to let their artistic side speak for a night and do a spooky face make over, disguise in a character they like, or sew their own costume.
To finish with, in France Halloween is not very popular but I think it's a chance for parents to create memories with their children by going candy hunting. At least I only remember the positive aspects of those moments. Even now, watching horror movies around this period has become a ritual.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteI think that Halloween doesn't afraid children, I saw a lot of children doing it with their friends on the street, asking for some candies. Also, it's not as commercial as Valentine's day, or father/mother/grandma's day. People celebrate Halloween because it's fun, it's scary and people love it. I totally disagree with people that are looking for bad sides everywhere even when there is not.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteDuring Halloween, I was in Saly, in Senegal. We didn't celebrate it there, but usually in France, we do it each year, and we love it. I talked to my friend, who lives there, and he told me that they don't celebrate it (or it's very rare) and only few people do it. I don't really know why they don't celebrate it, even if I think that it could be because of the lack of money. Furthermore, I think that it's not in their culture, while we are more and more influenced by Americans (especially the youth), who I think are the first to have celebrated Halloween.
Moreover, even if I really like this custom, I agree with Charlotte when she says that it’s another commercial celebration which invites us to spend money on costumes whereas we are induced to reduce our textile consumption to preserve our planet.
However, I do not agree with the fact that it can affraid young children and traumatize them. At the beginnig, Halloween is a celebration on the night of October 31. It is most practised in the United States and Canada. Children wear costumes and go to people's homes saying "Trick or treat!" to ask for candies. It also exists in Spain or Mexico, but it's called "Dia de los muertos". It is distinguished from other festivals of the dead, especially Christian, by the festive character of certain traditions and by the realization of private altars dedicated to the dead, covered with offerings like familiar objects, flowers and food. I think that I prefer spanish's party, because it is funnier and less scary.

Hello, I also hope this Halloween holidays were great for you because I’ve for once enjoyed this event… First of all, I do not think Halloween is bad for children because it’s in human nature to be attracted to what scares us or puzzles us. I am not saying that you should show the scariest movies of all times to your kids, but I do think it could bring them something important as they grow up, which is to overcome what frightens them the most. Regarding the environmental case, we should as Hannah said keep our costumes for the next year or do what I did this Halloween where I just put some scary makeup with a nice shirt instead of buying a costume. This might be a great solution for the environment’s sake. Anyway, for me Halloween is a terrific event where you share great moments with your friends while watching some scary movies, we should indeed never forget or stop this celebration!!!
ReplyDeleteHello, in my point of view, I think it’s good to celebrate halloween. I think It’s true that they invite us to spend money on costumes and sweets, but kids are having fun and they have a good evening. They can be scared but they know that on Halloween you’re supposed to be scary (that’s why many kids are dressed as a witch or as a zombie.) Also on Halloween night horror movies are on television. Indeed it’s a commercial day, but Valentine’s day is too, but maybe to preserve the planet you could try to make you’re own costume by using old clothes that you don’t use, so it could reduce the textile consumption.
ReplyDeleteHello, personally I have loved my holidays and especially Halloween, that was great and I had a lot of fun with my friends.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I think Halloween is a party whose purpose is to scare other people for one night, so I agree that it can scare some kids but, I think that Halloween is a party that’s not traumatic, the kids collect candy and put on the costume that they want, I think it’s up to the parents to manage their kid's party, by staying with them and making sure that their parties are not traumatic but are simply a children’s Halloween party.
The goal is for them to have fun, I think it’s up to the parents to be careful and not lead them to something scary.
Then I think Halloween helps merchants by sometimes influencing us to buy, but businesses take every opportunity to do more selling, so if Halloween were commercial, Christmas would be commercial too.
I think it’s up to us to know if we need the objects before we buy them and think twice as before we make any purchase.
Moreover, we are not obliged to buy, far from it, we can make our own costume with fabrics or clothes that
we already have. I think then that Halloween is not against the planet, on the contrary, it pushes us to be creative and recycle old clothes, and children take the notion of generosity by giving candy to the people.
I really think that Halloween is an opportunity to have fun, to play a role in an evening, to eat sweets and just laugh.
It is up to each person to make the choice to celebrate Halloween or not, depending on their desires, but I think that every problem has its solution, parents could refuse that their children celebrate it, but they could also ensure that their evening is absolutely not scary, or just a little bit. And I think that we can celebrate Halloween and recycling the fabrics of the costume after it, it seems to be a good solution.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I had a great holiday. Halloween is one of my favorite moments during All Saints holidays. Every year we organize something to celebrate Halloween. This year we had a party at a friend's house, and it was nice.
I think that Halloween is a commercial celebration although I appreciate it anyway. By cons, I do not think Halloween traumatizes children on the contrary. For them, this holiday allows them to disguise, eat as much candy as they want.

Hello !
ReplyDeleteAs far as I’m concerned I’m not a big fan of Halloween but I enjoy celebrate it, generally I hang out or do a party with my friends.
I think these people are right, it’s true that Halloween encourage us to spend money on costume or at parties. But according to me Halloween allow us to have a good time with our friends. Moreover, we have the choice of spend money or not, we can simply watch movies with our friends or family. Or if we have money to spend, we can do a party and buy frightening costumes. That’s depends of your mood and budget. Concerning the fact that Halloween afraid children, I think that parents are allowed to take monitor their kids and pay attention on what they watch. To finish a lot of thing prevents us to preserve the planet and we don’t stop to do them. So, we maybe must reduce our textile consumption and using less tissues, but stop celebrating Halloween it’s a bit excessive.

ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I'm not a big fan of Halloween. I think that this holliday means something in American culture, because Americans have been celebrating it for years, but it is meaningless in France, as it has never been part of French culture and traditions. I think that the only reason this holliday was introduced to France was a commercial one, as people usually buy candies and horror films to celebrate Halloween. But, as far as I am concerned, I don't feel any particular bond with Halloween. I know what is the meaning of Christmas, Easter, the Assumption day, or the 14th of July. But Halloween doesn't mean anything to me.

Hello!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love Halloween and I don't understand why people are against it. Yes it is a commercial events but Christmas is also a commercial events. I think kids are not traumatized by it, I think they are having a lot of fun. This events is funny for the adults and for the kids.
Like Monica says you can decide to not spend money and just watch a movie with your friends.
I don't think we should stop celebrating Halloween, we should as we want.

Hello ! I really like the Halloween celebration, I like makeup and Halloween, there is so much different and original? like the costumes !!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's an excuse to eat a lot of sweets!
First of all, about people who think that Halloween could be dangerous for young children, I think if the child is supervised by his parents, that he does not go to places that are not his age, there will be no problem and the child will have no reason to be traumatized, that's logical.
And on Halloween, kids could enjoy it because it's a party where everyone disguises themselves, takes candy, shares good times, and so on.
Then, about Halloween, which would be a commercial celebration, I think it's true, because the traders see that Halloween is making money, it's normal that they profit from it, that's the trade. But yes, the textile costumes are bad for the environment but if everyone takes care of their clothes, keeps them and does not pollute with etc, there will be no problem.
Hello, first of all I had a great holiday. Halloween is the most awaited evening of the holidays of All Saints and it is most often the best evening of the holidays, in my case I celebrated halloween in night club which made its opening for halloween. Most people were disguised that's why I love halloween because disguising creates a unique atmosphere between people. However it's a party that encourages people to go out and spend money so it's a commercial party but it does not bother me. Then, I do not think that the children are frightened by this festival, for them it is the opportunity to go out disguised with their friends to collect a maximum of sweets.

Hi eveybody !
ReplyDeleteTo start with, at the present moment people need to be happy and share time with their friends. We live in a world where everyday, we hear about new disasters or attacks. That’s why I think that we should take every opportunities to celebrate events.
Even if Halloween is a commercial celebration, I think people should do it. Indeed I have a lot of great memories doing « trick or treat ». Moreover it’s a good occasion to eat candies and chocolates with your frinds. I’m concerned about the environment and I know that we can rent costumes for the night which is a good solution if you want to help the planet.
I hope you enjoy your Halloween!
Hello, here is my correction:

Hello!
ReplyDeleteTo begin ,I love Halloween because I very like celebrate parties and wear costumes. In my opinion ,on the one hand it's extremely fun because we can become our favorite frightening character for one days and affraid our family or our friends. Moreover, it's fun because we go trick or treat to neighbour houses, on top of that we can watch a horror movie with friend. Then I agree with
Kamélia Barzali for persons who think that halloween is dangerous for children's because kids aren't in danger providing they are
supervised by their parent's
but on the other hand, I also think that we are polluting the planet buying new costumes every year so I think we should economize and wear the things that we aldready bought.
Hello ! I think that Halloween is a great celebration since it has been around for a long time!
ReplyDeleteI think that this event is like a tradition for people and kids. Every child know what day is 31st October. For me too ! I had always dreamt about celebrating Halloween, but never really doing it "big" like in the U.S !
First, I think that Halloween don’t traumatize young children. The parents have to explain to their child or children what this celebration is about before doing it.
If we know that our child can be afraid really fast, we have to be very careful. Plus, there’s loads of young child who likes to scare other people just for fun but not in a good way. Sometimes, but fortunately not often, some person become crazy and on the night of Halloween, they really want to murder people and that’s something we must stop ! The police must to keep an eye on this evening.
On the contrary if a child loves the fantastic and monstrous creatures of movies or books, why refuse them to participate in Halloween ?
And thanks to this celebration, children can make friends and eat candies from their neighboorhood.
Next, I strongly agree with the fact that it’s another commercial celebration but nowadays every single celebration are marketed. That is for business. It helps a lot of small traders to sell more at a time of the year and « survive ». It’s true that we want to save our planet and spending money on everything is a bit too much. But imagine if we stopped celebrating Christmas. That would be horrible for nearly every people in the world ! Why ? Because it is a marketed celebration too and Christmas is less and less celebrating for its religions.
So I think, if people want to celebrate Halloween, they can. If people don’t want to, they can too !
It’s our choice. We don’t have to choose for others. Celebrations can be really important for some people, so I think that it’s not too bad to celebrate it, since it can change the more focused everyday life just for a day !
Happy Halloween everyone !
