In 1968, school uniforms were abolished in French public schools. The question whether it should be reintroduced or not is regularly raised by the government. What is your opinion about it?
Hello , On the one hand, I found the uniforms are very cool and original, it can be a good thing. First, For the most part, it would save us time instead of take a lot of time for chose our clothes. Secondly, there is an egality for the clothes so everybody wear the same clothes and there isn’t inegality for people who don’t have any means. And Wearing the uniform allows young people to avoid hastily judging someone based on their appearance So there will be no discrimination Thirdly, the uniforms have the connotation of the discipline and severity and I think that there will be a good thing.
But on the other hand , I find there is some disadvantages like that the uniforms could be quite expensive and there can be most expensive to buy uniforms for the children, that normal clothes. Then, it lacks freedom as everyone dresses the same way. Students have no choice but to dress all the same.
Hello, For my part, the uniform should be reintroduced in public schools to avoid discrimination between the different social classes of each pupil . It could stop prejudging one person or another. And thus facilitate meetings, socialization between students and put an end to harassment and violence at school Moreover, wearing the uniform could make the school a real professional and serious place. In fact, as for parents who dress up in costume before going to work, this could cause students to be more serious because they would take school as a place of work, a professional environment just like the work of their parent. But, there are negative points to that. The uniform is accused of denying the freedom of each one to dress as he wishes. Indeed, wearing the clothes you want is a mark of freedom and independence. To conclude, the wearing of the uniform as we have seen can be beneficial as it could be binding on some people. For my part this could only be a good thing.
Hello, first of all, I am accusing the uniform of bringing the school closer to the functioning of a military corps. Imposing dress on young people restricts the expression of personality. In addition, the school uniform does not prepare children for life in the "outside" world, where the uniform no longer exists. In particular, it would not prepare children to accept the difference in my opinion. The uniform is also uncomfortable compared to any held of our choice. However wearing a uniform would have a direct influence on the behavior of children, wearing a strict uniform would thus allow to obtain a better behavior, because of the image that the uniform returns children towards the others. This would strengthen equality between children. So I can say that I am against this idea of uniform since since 1968 our society continues to evolve and it would be useless to go back.
Hello, I think uniforms should be reintroduced in French schools so all student could be dressed the same way so their wouldn’t be harassment about clothes in school. Uniforms show that everybody is equal and it would probably make the social inequalities disappear. But if uniforms were reintroduced in public schools, the price should not be too high because some families have financials problems. Indeed, the way you are dressed shoes your personality, at week-ends you can still wear your personal clothes. But in schools it would reduce discrimination and bullying In Japan, South Korea,Martinique, the UK and other countries students have uniforms in school, why not us?
Hello ! So some people say that the uniform should be reintroduced to stop discrimination, bring equality and also bring more discipline. I don't share the same opinion : First I think school prepares us to the futur. And in the futur we rarely wear the uniform. The wearing of the uniform shows us that the differences are a danger. And that's not good at all. Also do not wear uniform gets us used to the fact that everyone is not equal and it is up to you to make the effort to ignore it because not everyone can wear the same clothes depending on their social background but everyone can ignore that fact and be happy. Also we must not forget that clothes are a way to express yourself and develop your creativity no mather where you come from even if it's harder for one person than another.
Hello, First of all, I think the uniforms should be reintroduce in our public schools. It would allow to reduce inegality between students and their social classes because all of them would have the same outfit. Then, for me, it would reduce too the discrimination and school harassment who is very frequent in our schools. But in other part, now the students can wear what they want so they develop their personality, and it's very important for their life. So it's a very difficult question in our society, many politicians ask the question if the uniform, abolished in 1968, must come back in our schools. Matheo SEGATTI Tes4
Hello! In my opinion I think is a good idea to wears uniforms because it's original. There are advantages First of all is decreases violence between students. Secondly is reduce the gap between social classes, that I find good. I think uniforms should be reintroduced in France. But there are also a disadvantage. We can't wears as we want , and uniforms can be more expensive as normal clothes.
hello for me the uniform must be reintroduced in France because it is for me a form of equality towards students and a way for them not to suffer all that is harassment thanks to this students have no social differences
Hi, First of all I think uniforms are a good thing because there is less bullying about appearance because we all wear the same thing. We would have more time in the morning to get ready because we wouldn't have to choose our outfit for the day. It would reduce inequalities between students on the other hands it would mean that students are not free to wear what they want and what they like, they are not expressing their creativities and their originalities. They would all look alike and couldn't be different. I think that we should really think about this, I don' really have an opinion about it.
On one hand, since school became compulsory, classrooms have reflected very heterogeneous social realities. Especially in the public schools where almost all sectors are represented: rich, less rich, wealthy or needy. Thus, these diversities lead to tensions between those who can afford to buy expensive clothes and those who want to have their classmate's branded clothes but cannot afford to buy them More generally, it erases the belonging to a religion (laicity) or a social class.
On the other hand, the school is a place of responsability where the child must learn to respect the values of the Republic. However, one of the particularities of the Republic is diversity. Moreover, it is probably not by advocating standardization that children will be taught to understand what diversity is. Finally, I don't think that uniforms will change the children's personnalities and make them less violent or less mean.
To conclude, I would say that I am against uniforms at school and that this 1968 law is a good idea. But I understand why it's a hard debate.

Hello, The introduction of uniforms in French state schools is a controversial topic. On the one hand, supporters of uniforms say they erase differences between pupils and they help fight social inequalities. They are also said to be cheaper than clothes and they prevent students from wasting time in the morning deciding what to wear.On the other hand, opponents to uniforms believe they deny students the freedom to wear what they want and they limit creativity. Personally, I already experienced wearing a uniform when I lived in Polynesia and I don't think it can erase differences as pupils always find a way of showing their social backgrounds through their smartphones or jewelry... I would say uniforms give pupils a sense of belonging to a group, a community and this is really positive. To conclude I don't think uniforms should be reintroduced because we value freedom in France but schools should consider a dress code to help pupils feel they are part of a group.
First, I think that school uniform is a complicated subject because everyone has a different opinion on it and each one is for or against according what they want.
Personally, I think that if all students would wear a uniform, all discriminations would be limited, and it wouldn’t have differences in money, social or religious. The uniform would then be a sign of equality. In addition, the uniform would make jealousy disappear. The uniform also creates a strong sense of belonging and imposes a group spirit. As an example in major universities like Yale, students are proud to wear the colors of their institution and to have belonged to it. The uniform also stands as a symbol of discipline, seriousness and success that can motivate the students to work. But, I think that imposing a uniform prevents students from showing what they want of them, from putting on an outfit in which they are comfortable or that makes them feel good according to their desires. This then prevents a certain freedom of expression, of the personality. Forcing students to wear a uniform does not teach diversity, difference or respect for others. I also think that the uniform does not sufficiently erase inequalities because it is often the goal when it is imposed, because students can always “stand out” with shoes or school supplies. To conclude, I think that imposing the uniform again would not be beneficial because nowadays, clothes often allow us to feel better in our skin, to be able to wear a comfortable outfit when you feel like it, and learn to not discriminate.
Sorry, I made some mistakes: - Should wear - There wouldn't be any money differences social and religious - Uniforms - What they want to do - Comfortable in
Hello!, In my opinion , the uniforms can be a nice thing but they have some disadventages. I will explain it better : on the one and hand that would be cool if we all wore uniforms because we would all be equal and it stop discriminate us, moreover, I think that some uniforms are beautiful and I like their designs and I also love wearing skirts. Futhermore, not only it stop discrimate us but also it would be helpful because in the morning we lose time choosing our clothes And on the other hand, it can be very expensive and some family can't buy that , moreover, our clothes define us like the style of clothes that we like as wellas our charactere but if we are obligated to wear uniforms we can't show how we are and I think taht a kind of sad Thank you for reading
Uniforms in some countries are still obligatory like in the UK, and when I was a little girl I always wanted to wear one, so I think I always believe that it is kinda cool and nice. Also, have an uniform is belonging to a specific school and it is kind of fun. On top of that, wearing uniforms avoid discrimination and mean laugh about some look, and it is really positive, everyone is wearing the same thing so no one could be mean. On the contrary, France abolished them. I also agree with that point of view because our look represent ourself and It is really great to have a personality which our style express. Then uniforms could be tedious at some point, and I think that I am really glad to can wear what I want to wear and be myself. As a conclusion, uniforms could be cool but I think that students should vote for their reintroduction. But I am definitely an idealist, this is a little bit crazy...
Hello, I am convinced that the government should not reintroduce school uniforms. First, uniforms are not modern, generally they are ugly. Wearing ugly clothes every day doesn't make you want to go to high school. As far as I’m concerned, I hate to wear the same cloth, I prefer to vary the outfits. Moreover, today it’s important for a teenager to wear something that corresponds to him. It’s a way to express himself. In on the other side it can be good thing because it allows to save time in the morning. It also it allows equality between students and avoids a social gap. If some students are reach and others poor it can be a problem but uniforms, it’s not a solution very efficient. Social gaps between students will be present in any case even if it will be less felt. So uniforms have some advantage, but I prefer to wear my own clothes.
Hello, It can be a good idea or a bad to reintroduce uniforms, for the following reasons: First of all, it is too strict, we can’t dress as we want to and we always have to wear the same things, we can’t change styles. Moreover, this induces to act as if we were employes thus adults while we are only teenagers. It also suggests that we are going to attend a meeting fact. That uniforms at highschool level but not before, in order to avoid socialize inequalities or bullying. Finally, some schools could demand uniform while others live the choice to dress as they wish.
Hello, In my opinion, students shouldn’t wear uniforms. The students should be allowed to choose what they want to wear in school. I don't think uniforms would affect the behavior of the students. It is also harder on parents to have to keep these uniforms clean during the week. So I don't think uniforms should be worn to school, students should be allowed to express themselves and enjoy having some choice. Juliette Brinon
Hello, To my opinon, uniforms can be a good thing as a bad. Wearing the uniform allows young people to avoid hastily judging someone based on their appearance. No body can know if you 're rich or not, for this it's a very good thing. Because I think that nobody should be able to judge someone in relation to his physique or his social rank. But uniforms can be a bad thing to because we are not free to dress as we want. It's the only bad point of the uniforms for me.
Uniforms made a lot of controversy in plenty country, because of the discrimination personal clothing can show whereas not wearing an uniform grants us to show our own style, because we all have distinct taste when it's about picking clothes, wearing make up or not etc.
To my opinion, uniform are a bad idea because, i just think i must wear what ever i want, and the only people who can tell me something about it are my parents, that sees me every morning before going to school.
As for the English model, the uniform in France could have become a cultural symbol if it had not been abolished in 1968 during student demonstrations. First of all, in 1968, people were not living as nowadays, they didn't have the same rights, laws, and I think that didn't have the same state of mind. However, more and more establishments are reinstating it, in order to combat the war of brands in the playgrounds. High schools and military high schools are also equipped with uniforms to instill in their students the values of respect and rigor supported by their training. Wearing the uniform is a debate that shares the share: a source of solutions for some, a return to outdated practices for others. I am for the reintroduction of the uniforms in France, because this removes the visible differences in social status or wealth. This is an additional factor of integration. Moreover, some schools in France still use uniforms and I think that it's a great idea.
Hello, The wearing of uniforms is still a convention practised in some countries of the world, such as in the United Kingdom. In my opinion uniforms have many benefits for students : it saves time in the morning, and might reduce prejudices caused by the gap between the means of consumption. But perhaps, reintroducing it into the french academic system would never be possible because I remember that in my previous school many students especially girls were forbidden to wear certain clothes such as ripped pants or shorts, and I learnt from that, that a lot of young people is attached to this freedom of "style" because it's somehow an expression of one's identity. To finish with, to speak truthfully I wouldn't be annoyed by a uniform even if I love fashion and to feel confident into my outfits, but what bothers me the most is the judgements of other. So I'm not against this reform if it is to be established one day, but we are so used to dressing the way we want and differently every day that it would be really strange to deprive ourselves of that overnight.
I strongly believe that we should reintroduce uniforms in France, at least in elementary and middle schools. In high schools, it is perhaps less necessary, as students are supposedly more mature and don't judge each other on the basis of their clothes. But in elementary school and middle school, nowadays, children pay a lot of attention on what clothes people wear and this creates discrimination against the poorer ones, as they cannot afford to buy expensive shoes or bags. I think that school is a place where everyone should be considered equal and everyone, no matter what their background and income may be, should be given an opportunity to learn and become a responsible citizen. Reintroducing a school uniform would help us achieving that by erasing social differences and creating a sense of equality in pupils' everyday life. (People often object to the school uniform by saying that it is against the pupils' freedom, but in school pupils already have to obey to a lot of rules and they're not free to do whatever they want. Moreover, children could put "normal" clothes when they leave the school.) A school uniform would also strengthen solidarity among the children and obediance to the teachers' authority, as it would remind them of military uniforms. Last but not least, a school uniform would put an end to all the controversies about what one can and cannot wear in school, especially concerning secularism, as some people claim that they should have the right to wear Muslim veils or Christian crosses in school. With a uniform nobody could do that anymore. Of course, I know that reintroducing a uniform wouldn't change the behaviour of all children, but I still think it would be a positive thing to do, in order to promote the French values of equality and secularism and the authority of the Republic.
Hi, I understand that uniforms can be good to fight against inequalities. However, clothes can show our creativity and identity. Indeed, we need to be different between each other and to show it. Especially in our society which conveys us to be the same person. To conclude, I will say that difference is our power and we need to expose it. Marie Espinosa TES2
Personally I think that it's a great thing that the French government has abolished school uniforms from the public schools. Indeed I think that it's extremely important to be able to express our style at any age, children and even teenagers should not feel obliged to dress a certain way. Expression is a very important thing, specially during childhood. Furthermore how can we ever discover what our style is if we are forced to all wear the same thing? We simply can't. I find it interesting to see how different people dress, it shows more then just their style, it shows their personality. To conclude I don't think that the French government should bring back uniforms.
Nowadays, in a lot of countries school have an uniform. For instance countries like Japan or the United Kingdom. I believe that uniforms can have some real advantages : they allow kids to gain time in the morning but more importantly it can reduce the social differences between students and help some families to spend less money on the clothing and therefore help them to save money. But clothing are also a great way to express yourself, which would be impossible with an uniform
Hello, I find this question interesting : On the one hand, I would say that uniforms allow integration, because all students are « the same ». Whereas today, clothes are often a marker of financial means. However, I believe money has nothing to do with school, because too often it leads to harassment. Other times, it is used to « impress » because fashion is important with the emergence of social media, thus emergence of the importance of appearance. That’s why I believe we should confer a smaller place to clothes because teenagers just look at a person’s style to determine whether they are cool or not, smart or not, rich or not. This makes stereotypes even stronger. Maybe I’m going too far, but in reality style in general has long-term consequences. On the other hand, uniforms are a way of expressing oneself. If we consider those who like fashion, reintroducing uniforms would mean restricting them, there are a lot of teenagers who develop a passion for fashion, design, and art and express them through clothes. They would feel punished for being themselves. That’s why it is a complicated decision to make.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, in 1968, people were not living as nowadays, they didn't have the same rights, laws, and I think that didn't have the same state of mind.
I made some mistakes:
Delete- people didn't live
- on the play ground
-Wearing the uniform is a debate which is shared
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteThe wearing of uniforms is still a convention practised in some countries of the world, such as in the United Kingdom.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe that we should reintroduce uniforms in France, at least in elementary and middle schools.
Moreover, children could put "normal" clothes when they leave the school.)
A school uniform would also strengthen solidarity among the children and obediance to the teachers' authority, as it would remind them of military uniforms.

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI understand that uniforms can be good to fight against inequalities. However, clothes can show our creativity and identity. Indeed, we need to be different between each other and to show it. Especially in our society which conveys us to be the same person. To conclude, I will say that difference is our power and we need to expose it.

Hello everyone,
ReplyDeletePersonally I think that it's a great thing that the French government has abolished school uniforms from the public schools.
Thank you for reading.

Hello everyone,
ReplyDeleteNowadays, in a lot of countries school have an uniform.
Hello everyone I made a mistake :
Delete- school children wear uniforms
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI find this question interesting :
On the one hand, I would say that uniforms allow integration, because all students are « the same ».
