BREXIT

The British government have been trying to be put into action the brexit for almost three years now. What do you think is/are the main factor(s) for the slow pace of the negotiations?

  1. The proposal for the Brexit agreement was recently rejected by the London Parliament. The work done during these years is therefore reduced to nothing, the date of Brexit is still postponed and things are not moving forward, so Brexit supporters are getting impatient. The London Parliament therefore voted again to see if they still wanted to leave the European Union. The European Parliament also voted to decide whether to rewrite a contract with England or to separate without a contract. Financing, it is out of the question to waste more years writing an agreement, everyone wanted to end it without an agreement, but Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor recalled that the presence of an agreement would be in everyone's interest. Teresa Mai, the English Prime Minister, was therefore discredited and the English had until June to decide and leave the European Union.

  2. The British have had two years to find an internal consensus on the exit agreement. They didn't find it. Theresa May arrives on Thursday in Brussels in the European Council by asking for a postponement of the brexit Until 30 June.

  3. Hello,

I think there are many factors for the slow pace of these negotiations. First of all, British Prime minister Theresa May didn't get a majority of seats in the British Parliament in the last general elections and she had to ally with a far-right Northern Irish party to form a government. It makes it harder for her to negotiate with the EU, especially on issues concerning the lands border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Then, only a narrow majority of people (about 52%) of people voted for Brexit and the main political parties of the UK (the tories and the Labour) were divided on this issue. For instance, May herself campaigned for "Remain" during the referendum, and now she has to handle Brexit !
And, last but not least, there are so many EU treaties and regulations that it's almost impossible for both UK and EU negotiators to re-negotiate all of them in only a few months...
