Cruelty

Do you agree with the following sentence? Why?
"Cruelty is everybody's business", from Black Beauty by Anna Sewell

  1. Hi everyone,
As Anna Sewell said in Black Beauty, I do think "cruelty is everybody's business".
When you see someone being cruel and you don't react, you become as guilty as this person . Whereas, if you protest out loud when you see cruelty, you are helping the the victim and you are also giving a lesson to the one being cruel and maybe helping him to become a better person by making him aware of his cruelty.
To conclude, cruelty is everybody's business. Everybody should have the reaction of Joe in Black Beauty when he sees it.

  2. Hello everyone!
I agree with Lucie; in my opinion cruelty concerns everyone, because you can not just ignore someone being bullied or injured or else and just leave. If you have feelings you have to do everything you can to help that person, like calling the police or by only reacting (screaming or trying to protect that person).
However, I think that by reacting you show to the cruel one that the victim is not alone but on the contrary, is being helped.
Furthermore, Anna Sewell is giving a lesson of life to all those bad persons who treat horses in bad ways, and she wants to show that this cruelty is coming from humans.
So I think "cruelty is everybody's business"!
    Thank you for reading,

  3. Hello,
I share Anna Sewell's point of view about cruelty. Indeed, I think that cruelty, and, broadly, every kind of evil that exists in the world, concerns everyone. It is easier not to protest when one witnesses cruel behaviour, but I think that all humans have a moral obligation to act in such a case. As famous scientist Albert Einstein said : "The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything". I will add that this opinion is not just a mere opinion, it is a basic concept in law : if you witness a crime and do not try to help the victim, or if you are aware of someone else's evil plans and do not try to prevent them from performing them, you can be condemned and go to jail.

  4. To begin , Black Beauty by Anna Sewell deals with the life of a horse who's named Black Beauty. In the story he was mistreated and the author wanted to denonce the bad condition of life of horses in 1877. That is why I find that her sentence illustrate perfectly her book .
As for me, it's obvious that cruelty is everybody's business.I fully agree with Anna Sewell's sentence , it's important to react and stand against wrong act and bad attitud. Ignoring cruel things it's like be cruel . Moreover we are responsable and it's an obligation and a duty to fight wrong things. Ana intimates that cruelty concern humans but also animals .To my mind ,this suggest that no one deserve to be mistreated as Black Beauty .However ,those who ignored or act like if that doesn't exist were more guilty than those who were violent . I wonder why people can act like that and I can't understand their behaviour.
So I see eye to eye with Octave when he take Albert Einstein 's quote "the world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything" to illustrate A. Sewell's opinion .
Finally, speacking for myself, as Anna Sewell said ,we are all concern by cruelty.

  5. I think this woman is not totally wrong, because everyone can be offended by the cruelty of others, but we are all a little cruel.
The world of humans and even animals is cruel because everyone is selfish and thinks of their needs before those of others. For example, everyone knows that our products such as clothing or electronics come in large quantities from countries that practice child labour and a kind of modern slavery that are forced to work in harmful environments and earn nothing, but we still consume them because they are much cheaper. It is a form of acceptance of what is happening so I could be held responsible for the hell they are going through since it is thanks to my consumption that they suffer. So I am cruel and this is just one example of the cruelty that everyone has shown in their lives.
It is therefore easy to point fingers at cruel people, but we are all a little bit cruel.
