"Tales of Mystery and Imagination" by Edgar Allen Poe

Which story did you enjoy reading? Why?

  1. Hello,
I enjoyed reading William Wilson because it has a lot of suspense (as every story of this book), but I liked the concept because seeing a person who looks exactly as me will be very strange and awkward. Maybe Edgar Allen Poe has written this tale in order to make a supposition of one person's reaction if someone had the same name or the same clothes as him or her.

  2. Hi !
I really liked Tales of mystery and imagination. All the stories were insteresting but In my opinion, The Black Cat was the best story of all of them. I think that because I found that story very detailed, the ending was really good imagined and if I am not wrong, I think that The Black Cat was the longest story of this book (orm aybe William Wilson, I don't remember). Anyway, I really liked this story in general.

  3. Hello!
My favourite story is « The Black cat » because there are more suspense. It’s a bit like revenge of the cats. And it is also the most terrifying. Moreover, the man is violent and bas and what he does at cats, he does at the women at that time and perhaps nowadays. I think this story is sad and terrifying. That’s why it’s my favourite story.
    Thank you for you attention.

  4. I really enjoyed reading "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" and I liked all the stories, but my favourite ones are "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The Tell-Tale Heart". I really liked "The Masque of the Red Death", because I found it really scary, especially the description of the last of the seven coloured rooms, with its black walls and red Windows and its big clock.
As for "The Tell-Tale Heart", I think it was really creepy because the narrator is crazy but explains everything he did very calmly, and the ending is really great. I didn't expect it at all !
But I also really liked all of the other stories of this great book !

  5. Hello!
I really liked reading 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' but I think that my favorite story is 'The Black Cat'. You will probably think I am weird, but I really liked it because it is a scary story (even though it is not the scariest one in this book) and I like to be scared. This story is also about animals, and I really love animals, especially cats! In my opinion it shows how horrible humans can be with others, or animals, for the most stupid reason! I liked it because it proves how sweet animals are ; in 'The Black Cat' the cat, Pluto, seems so kind and it shows that animals are respectful to all living beings, compared to humans! I’ve also been touched a lot ; while I was reading the story I cried a lot, because it’s horrible how the main character treats his cat!
This is why 'The Black Cat' is my favorite story.
    Thanks for reading,

  6. As far as I am concerned, I found all the stories interesting to read but "The Masque of the Red Death" is by far my favourite. First and foremost I loved its awfully creepy and dreamlike atmosphere. There is much suspense and a sense of dread all through the story. Then, I liked the fact that the mysterious character didn’t wear a disguise but was the red death itself. It was surprising and spooky at the same time.
What’s more, the subject is topical since nowadays we are still afraid of the threat of a deadly virus spreading fast through the population.
Finally, I am fond of the moral of the story: Prince Prospero should have taken care of the other half of his subjects infected by the virus instead of planning to have a good time. In a way, he got what he deserved!
Last but not least, I appreciated the irony present in the story: the doors of the castle were shut so that no one could enter after the last guest but it also meant that no one could get out… they were all doomed to die.

  7. There were two stories that I enjoyed reading. The first one was "The Black cat" and the second one was "The Tell-Tale heart". I enjoyed reading them, because they were easy to read and to understand. "The Black cat" was a strange story , because a man who loved animals and especialy Pluto, his big black cat, and who killed him because of alcohol; so, I think it's really sad and in my mind there were a moral: "if you drink to much, you can do somethings you don't want and perhaps, you can kill the persons that you are in love". "The Tell-Tale heart" was strange too, but it wasn't as scary as the other one. In my mind, it's really strange to kill someone because of his blue eye. I think that the narrator had a mental problem of wanting to kill someone, because he had a blue eye. Finally, I liked reading this two stories, even if they were a little bit scary and strange.

  8. Hi ! I really enjoyed reading William Wilson and the Tell-Tale Heart. First of all, I love the end of William Wilson story. Also I think this story is really interesting and in a  another way really weird. Just think about it : you met somebody who have the same name as you, look just like you, know your deepest feeling and follow you everywhere.
And I really enjoyed reading The Tell-Tale Heart because I like how the narrator is trying to convince him-self that he isn't mad, even if he is.

  9. Hello !
All the stories of this book were very good but I prefered "The Black Cat" because I love animals and I have a cat. In the story, since the narrator started to be totally crazy because of alcohol, hurting and killing his cat, I wanted the narrator be trapped or killed by the second cat. Furthermore I found that the end of the story was very good, bloody and scary and I'm looking for all of this in a horror story, which is why "The Black Cat" is my favorite story of the book.

    Hello !
All the stories of the book made me scared when I read them. This book wasn't my cup of tea. But the most interesting was "William Wilson". It was a disconcerting story and after reading I thought a lot about the subject. I asked myself some questions like "Why the narrator is dead ?" or "How I would react if I was the narrator ?". This is why this story was my favorite one. "The Black Cat" was a great story also.

  13. I liked reading "Tales of Mystery and Imagination", In spite of the fact that I hate horror stories.
My favourite was "The Fall of the House of Usher" because this story is really well written, and the descriptions of each action make the story more realistic. I think this story is sad, not frightening.

  14. Hello !
In this book, the story that touched me the most is the story of William Wilson because it is quite disturbing to see a person who copies our habits... Moreover, in this story there is a little suspense which makes it more impressive.

    Hello!

First of all, I really enjoyed reading this book, indeed, I am keen on scary stories, that's why I think that book was made for me. Besides, I was interested in the first story, "The Fall of the House of Usher" I feet like it made us enter into the creepy atmosphere of this book, and gave us an image of what was going to come in the following stories. However, I also liked "William Winson" and "The Tell-Tale Heart". In my opinion, "William Winson" is different from the other stories, what I mean is that it is scary as well but not in the same way because it is full of doubts like "Are there really two William Winson?". And about the last story, what made me like it is that I didn't expect the end like that, I was really surprised!

To finish with, I liked this book and I recommend it.

Than you for reading, Noa Momet Tiberio.

  17. In "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" there are lot of fantasticals stories .
I enjoyed reading the Black Cat because the narrator loved animals like me. When the narrator's house was burned, the mystery shadow of the cat imply that the cat is the cause of the fire like a revenge. I think the second cat is the reincarnation of the first one. The cat denounced the narrator yo the police as this cat was intelligent.
I think the moral of the story is good: don't hurt animals.
