  1. Hello Americans ! In France, we have four different holidays of two weeks and one, the summer holiday of two months. So, what are some famous holidays in France ? When is the holiday ? What do you do to celebrate this holiday ?

First, you can imagine that the summer holiday is the best because we have time to do many things like traveling. Besides, this holiday is in July and August, so it's very hot especially in Nice ! On top of it, we have many beautiful beaches.
Then, Christmas holiday is also very famous because generally we see all the family for Christmas and our friends for New Year's Eve. So, this holiday pass quickly and everybody is happy !
Finally, the holiday during February is very cool because in France we have an important event " The Carnival " ! During this period, we can dress up, even in our high school, si it's very funny ! In Nice, we have a beautiful Carnival.

In conclusion, there are three famous holidays : summer holiday, Christmas holiday and holiday during February. I hope that my little description of my country interesting you and that you want now to discover even more and come in France !

    1. In American we too have a summer holiday (2 months off) and a Christmas holiday (2 weeks off). We also have a week off from school in April for Easter. We even have several one day holidays throughout the school year like Labor Day, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, and Memorial Day.

    2. Hi Alyssa ! Thanks for your information.
I know that the last Monday, 20th of January was an important day for you ! It was Martin Luther King Day. In France, we don't have day for a particular " hero " but we have several days to celebrate many " heroes " of World War I and II like the 11th November or the 8th of May !
What do you do during a bank holiday ? For example, what did you do for Martin Luther King Day ?

  2. Hi Americans ! In France, there are many holidays : civil holidays and religious holidays. What are some famous holidays ? When are they ? What do the French people do to celebrate these holidays ?

First of all, there are two kind of holidays. I'm going to talk about one religious holiday and a civil one.
The 1st of May is the May Day or the Labor Day, called in French « La fête du Travail ». It is celebrated in September in the USA. This day, people often do labor-union demonstratings. They also wear a spring of lily of the valley.
A religious international day is the Saint's Day (« La Toussaint » in French). People celebrate it the 1st of November. They go in cimeteries to put flowers on their family's tomb. It is a really important day for some people.

To summurize, there are a plenty of holidays in France. Some holidays are international but all are interesting even if you don't do anything !

  3. You are planning to spend your holidays in France and you would like some informations? Well, we are there for you, as locals, better than tourist guides! In France there are many holidays during a year, but what could you do here ? Where could we go ?

In our city, Nice, there is the beach downtown and the mountains are located only 1.30 from the city ! Then, I'm going to present you the Christmas and summer holidays. In the Alpes Maritimes, our department, there are several winter sports resorts : Valberg, Auron, Isola… For me the best is Valberg, it is a little family station. During winter there is a lot of snow and it's fantastic to ski over there. Next, in Nice, everybody is waiting for the summer comes… The good weather shows up in April and summer in Nice is absolutely amazing. Of course you can go swim at the beach, but there is often crowded during holidays, so I recommend you to go discover the surroundings such as Cap d'Ail, Eze or still Villefranche which is only ten minutes by train. Moreover, at four hours by boat from Nice there is one of the most amazing Mediterranean island… Corsica.

Nice is a beautiful city with its surroundings, there are many things to do during all seasons Nice is very cool.
We are waiting for you !

    1. your holidays sound amazing!! I can't wait to come to France! In America, we go to the beach in the summer. In Maryland, we have two island beaches where there are ponies that migrate back and forth. Sometimes I go there for a day trip in the summer, but we have three months off for summer so we often go to beaches for one or two weeks. It gets very hot in July and august so that is the best time to go. When you come to America it will be Halloween and we can go trick or treating for candy!!

  4. Hi Americans ! In France, we have some "specials" holiday, some famous holidays ! And as you come soon in our country, I talk about our famous holidays. When they are ? Why ? And how we celebrate it ?

Let's start with the beginning of the year. We have, like everyone else, the New Year ! Next, we have the winter holiday (2 weeks off) between February and March. That remind me that the first sunday of March it's the Grandmothers Day and we have also the Carnival in this period. In Nice, it's very special : there are parades with carnival floats that follow a theme that changes each year ! The floats are full of dancers and persons who are disguised ! The whole city celebrates it !
Afterwards we have the sunday and the monday of Easter the 16th and the 17th of April (it change every year). We also have Spring Holidays (2 weeks off). The 1st of May, it's the Labor Day and nobody is working ! The 8th it's the victory of 1945 against the Germany so it's also a holiday. The last sunday of May or the first sunday of June it's the Mothers Day !
At the end of June, it's THE holidays : the Summer Holidays !
You've got the Indenpendance Day and we, the National Day in the 14th July : it's a holiday, nobody is working and at evening there is big fireworks over the sea (in our city) !
In early September we have the back to school !
But afterwards, there is the All-Saints Holidays (2 weeks off) during October And November. And last but not least there is the Christmas Holidays in December until early January !

So, that's our "famous" holidays ! I hope you have learn a little more about our country and our culture ! Hope to see you soon :)

    1. Hi, In America we have Many holidays. We have a winter break during Christmas time, which is two weeks and we visit or families, a lot of Americans have families that live far away, so we cant visit them regularly. A summer break which is 3 months and during this time, a lot of us volunteer for service learning hours or go to summer camp. We also have an Easter break which is a week or so and a spring break which is a week. Those are some of our main holidays.

  5. I am going to develop some cultural informations about french bank holidays. So what are some famous holidays in France? When is the holiday? What do you do to celebrate this holiday?

As in America, in France we have a veteran day to celebrate the allied's victory in world war one. Otherwise we also celebrate the victory of world war two the eight of may, this is an important public holiday in France. I don't know why you don't celebrate this date in America as you have also lot of veteran who have been killed during this war. Moreover we have like you a national day, it's for us the 14th of july. On 14 july a military parade takes place in Paris on the famous champs-elysées avenue. In each french cities and villages is organized a popular ball and a firework. Moreover we celebrate some catholics bank holiday like ascension day, or assomption day, the fifteenth of august. We have a lot of other bank holiday.

To conclude the cultural traditions of France and the United States are sometimes similar and sometimes different

    1. Hello! I am Mary, one of the American students.

We may not celebrate the victory of World War Two in America, but in November we celebrate Veteran's Day. On this holiday we recognize the veterans from all of our wars! We also have many religious holidays and holidays about our important people in our nation's past, such as President's Day and Martin Luther King Day.

In your first sentence, I would use the word "share" instead of "develop," and information should be singular, not plural.
Also, say "for us it's" instead of "it's for us" in your sentence about July 14th.
Remember that in America...months, countries/nationalities, monuments, and significant events are capitalized!
When you use the phrase "moreover," I think you should use "also."
Also, in the last sentence, "holiday" should be plural and not singular.

But, other than that, your english is very good! Nice work!

Also, could you please explain what a bank holiday is? I've never heard of this phrase.

      Good job!!!

  6. In France we have many holidays, but are they the same that in United States ? When are they ?

In France we have 4 holidays of 2 weeks, in October, in December, in February and in April. The first is All Saint holidays, during this vacation we do Halloween but it's not like you, I think that's it's better in the United States. In December we celebrate Christmas and the new year. In February we do ski and in April we celebrate Easter.
At the end of the class we have holidays of 2 months, they are the better holidays, we can do what we want during two months but it passes so fast…

In France we always do the same during the short vacations, but we always have fun too ! And you what are you doing during holidays ? What are your favorite holidays ?

    1. Hey! We have similar holidays but we don't get to go on vacation for Halloween, so I am jealous of you guys! Halloween is really fun here.We also celebrate Christmas and Easter but we don't have a special time for skiing. I wish we did! I have never been skiing even though I live close to a few ski clubs. My favorite holiday is Christmas or New Years because they are both really fun. We also have a three month long break from school in the summer time. During break a lot of people travel to the beach or go on vacation somewhere else. I got to go to France for a day this past summer, I went to Toulon. I think that is close to Nice. also your English is very good! There are only a couple mistakes but they are very minor. for example we don't really say "do ski" mostly we just say "ski"!

    2. Thank you for the correction !
Halloween seems to be amazing in United States. And I think that have 3 months of vacation it's very cool because you can do all you want.
Thank you for you answer Katie !

    3. Hi!

You mentioned that you celebrate Halloween differently in France than in the United States. How do you celebrate Halloween there? Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love to dress up in a costume and spend time with friends. The free candy is also wonderful!

  7. Hi Americans!

In France we have many vacations. I am going to tell you about ours but you, when are yours, and what do you do to celebrate these holidays?

First of all, we have four vacations of 2 weeks off each time. The first one is end October early November, then there's Christmas (also two weeks off), winter vacations, Easter and at the end Summer vacations, my favourite.

Unlike you, we don't have ''heroes'' celebration. In the United States you celebrate the Martin Luther King day or presidents day but in France it doesn't exist. That's too bad!
By contrast, we have the Carnival in February. Many people are dressed up,it's very fun! During winter's vacations, the French go to ski, there' re plenty of amazing ski resorts.

In conclusion, we have many vacations but no -Heroes- celebrations. Our summer break last about 2 months.

We can't wait to see you and to go to the United States!!

    1. Laura,
In the US we have, for the most part, similar holidays. We too celebrate Christmas and have off from school 2 weeks. We also have a break during November for Thanksgiving that last about a week. In April we too have Easter. In the US there are also other holidays like Passover that Jewish people celebrate which is around Easter. There is also Kwanzaa which is another holiday some people celebrate which is around Christmas time. Although we don't celebrate Carnival, we do have "hero" days as you put it. Martin Luther King Day is celebrated nationwide by having no school or work and so is presidents day. In November there is veterans day. Is there anything like that that you celebrate in France?

    2. Laura,
In America we have many similar holidays that are celebrated. We too celebrate Christmas with a two week break off from school. We also have a break in November; although, ours is for Thanksgiving and it lasts about a week. In April we too celebrate Easter. There are also other holidays celebrated throughout the year. Passover, a holiday celebrated by Jews, is around the time of Easter. Kwanzaa is another holiday celebrated around Christmas. Even though we don't have Carnival, there are differences between our holidays. Like you said, we have "hero" days. Martin Luther King Day is celebrated nationwide with no school or work. It falls on the same day every year. Presidents day is the same way and so is veterans day which is in November. MLK day is in January and Presidents day is in February. Do you guys have any holidays where you honor your veterans in France?

  8. In America we have we get off many holidays where we get off school. For example, during Christmas we get off for 2 to 3 weeks to celebrate. In the summer we get 3 months of to relax. During those 3 months, we go to the pool, the beach, and sporting events. During Easter and Thanksgiving, we get off 1 week. During that week, we spend time with our families.

    1. Bonjour Ornella, lorsque tu ecris que se soit en anglais ou francais, tu dois avoir le meme temps, si tu dis'' I don't + present= I don't know'' mais si tu voulais ecrire au passé, ''you did not know''.

  11. In America we celebrate Easter in either march or April. Usually there is an Easter egg hunt associated with Easter Sunday for the younger children. Also there are baskets with chocolate and candy in them to celebrate the Easter holiday.

  13. Here are some famous holidays in France :

    Christmas ( 25th December )
In France we celebrate Christmas with our family, exchange presents and Christmas dinner is very important for us, especially she French people love good food such as live oysters and the best of all "foie gras".It means fat goose liver in english.
Christmas dinner in France is on Christmas Eve unlike in america Christmas dinner is on Christmas day.On Christmas Eve we leave our slippers under the christmas tree for farther Christmas to give us presents

Easter (1st Sunday of April )
We have a two weeks holiday for Easter in France. We celebrate Easter with all our family it's a family gathering day. The tradition is to hide Easter eggs in the garden and the children have to go "Easter eggs hunting".
In France it is said that Easter bells bring the Easter eggs to children, where as in America it's the Easter bunnies .

    Bastille Day( 14th July )
A very important day in France. It's a national holiday. It's a memorial day f the end of French revolution in 1789.On this day each neighbourhood organize a street party for people to dance in the street in the evening . We always end this special day with big fireworks in each town.

But my favorite holiday is not an important day that we still have to go to school and to work. It's "la fette des voisins" it means the neighbourhood day.
On that day all the neighbour prepare something to eat, and bring them together in the evening where there is a big table already prepared . We spend all the evening together drinking, eating and dancing just to have a good tim and to know one and other a bit better .

quand vous parlez du 14 juillet, '' each neighbors organize'' neighbourhood= voisinage./ neighbors= voisin.
la fete des voisins'' they prepare something to eat and bring it (them= gens) in the evening so people can get together. We spend the all evening (pas all the) so we all have a good time and can learn more about each other during the celebration. ''
      Bon travail, continuez comme ca!
