The French Law 49.3

What do you think of the law 49.3 that was used to push forward the text relevant to retirement?

The French law 49.3, is a provision that allows the government to pass a law without a vote in the National Assembly. This provision can be used by the government to push through a controversial legislation without the need of the parliament.

Under Article 49.3, the government can declare that a bill has been adopted without a vote if it is confident that it has a majority in the National Assembly. This means that the bill becomes law instantly, without further debate or vote.

The use of the 49.3 provision has lately been controversial in France, with criticisms arguing that it undermines the role of parliament and allows the government to bypass democratic processes. Supporters, on the other hand argue that it's a necessary tool to ensure the smooth functioning of the government and  it allows the government to implement its program.

  1. I think it’s not honest because using article 49.3 to put the retirement age at 64 years old , he had declared it would be hypocritical to raise the legal age to 62 years old during the first campaign . It’s not good for the people who believe in him

  3. To my mind, this law is a totally contrary and nonsense to democracy. Of course there is need to pass laws, some of which are indispensable necessary for the good fonctioning of the country. But if we are in a democracy, we must nevertheless leave the power to the people, to affirm and approve or not this law. Otherwise we are simply no in a democracy, but in a system imitating democracy while it is not, and therefore to make people believe that they have the power when it is not true
