GAP YEAR

Would you like to take some time off  after the baccalauréat and before you start your studies? Why / why not ? And what would /n't you  enjoy doing during that year?

  1. Hello!
Actually yes, I'd like to take some time off because I'd love to travel all around the world. That's one of my big dreams. See new cultures, new landscapes would be amazing. Of course I wouldn't travel alone. Also I would love to do a festival like "Coachella Festival". To conclude, I think that even if I would like to do all those things, I couldn't because of my parents and the trip's price.

  2. Hello,
To begin with I wouldn't personally take some time off because I don't want to loose time. It is very important to start thinking of what I would do in the future and what would be my future job. In fact I don't want to loose some time by enjoying doing something else instead of starting my studies. Therefore I will of course have a break during the summer time after the baccalauréat and I will probably enjoy it with my family and friends if I pass all the exams.
I would maybe have the time to enjoy a whole year later, after the studies.

  3. To begin with I would definitely take some time off after doing a business school. I'd really like to go to Canada and more precisely to Montreal because it's a beautiful place where there are loads of young people coming from every corner of the world. As far as I am concerned, I believe that it will allow me to regularly practise some good English and so to become a better student. I also have to say that it would be quite fun to live alone or with friends in a foreign country where you have to manage on your own. The main activities I could do would be working for charities or doing a huge trip all around the country funded by odd jobs that I would have done in France, so it 'd be 6 months of work for 6 months of full pleasure, fun and discovery.

I think I would start studying immediately after I graduated, so I can finish my studies quicker and move away. I want to study at the ESMA in Montpellier (Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques) because it's a school specialized in 3D animation, and it's a very good one ! Some of their students worked on Aquaman, Harry Potter, Avatar and a lot of other movies.
I want to work for Disney or Pixar, or maybe create my own animation studio, so I want to move away to the USA or Canada. That's why I want to end my studies quickly.

  5. Hi !
Actually I don't think that I'm going to take some time off after the baccalauréat. Indeed, I'm really looking forward quitting school to start "real" studies, that's why I guess I can't wait for it and I won't waist anytime during my studies to finally begin my real job. Furthermore, I plan on working in a foreign country ; therefore, I don't really need some time to travel because I know I will, thanks to my future job. And last but not least, I have to say that even though I wanted to, I couldn't afford any travel or anything like this because neither me or my family have the money for that ; and I don't want to waist my time in France either, even for a student job.

  6. Hello everyone!

To start with, a gap year might be a good way to take some rest and enjoy daily time without care about studying etc.

Personally, I wouldn't take some time off because, even if studying it's tiring, I'd like to finish my studies quickly. Plus, I'm afraid to forget all I learnt in my scoalrity during this year. In addition, my studies will last around 6 years, so start studying after I graduated will be perfect for me, then I'll finish studying before I'll be 25 years old maybe?
Furthermore, I will be comfortable and when I'll finish my studies, I'll probably think about taking some time off before finding a job.

    Have a good day!

  7. Hi,
so Gap year sounds great but as a lot of people (I suppose) I would like to finish my studies as soon as possible so unfortunately, I will not take some time to travel, visit my family or just chill with netflix etc ...
However, people who do that will necessarily enjoy their times.

  8. Hello everyone,

I don't have a strong opinion about this question. Because on one hand, I would really like to travel a little bit before my studies to gain maturity for example and enjoy my youth but on the other hand I think that taking a break for studies is only going to make it harder to come back to it later.

  9. The GAP year is an opportunity for young people to leave 1 year after their baccalauréat, and before starting their studies, in order to discover the world around them.

The advantages of this system are that you can take a break before studying, in order to become more mature by learning and discovering for yourself.

The disadvantages are that we leave school for one year, which is huge, and that after that we have to start our studies, it also delays the time when we can get a job, which is not possible for some financial situations. During this year it will also be necessary to be able to live and feed yourself, so finding a little job is necessary, the financial question can be a problem.

To conclude, the principle of the Gap year is good but difficult to achieve, so I won't do a GAP year after my baccalauréat.

  10. Hi everyone!

I guess I have a subtle opinion about the gap year. In fact I'm thinking more and more about it,
it's a possibility that I'm not excluding. In fact time goes by and I still can't project myself, so a year focused on myself could help me to discover what I really love and a specific path I would like to follow for my future.
One the one hand, it would allow me to take a break with all the pressure of school which is, for me, difficult to bear, and if I get the chance, to travel. But on the other hand leaving the school environment could be tricky because we lose all the notions seen previously and we add up weaknesses.
Moreover having all this time and no schedule could make me procrastinate a lot. Not to mention that it is rather badly perceived by schools.
To conclude, I still have one more year to be sure about the studies I would like to pursue, but if I am lost I will really reconsider a gap year.

  11. On one hand, personnaly, I don't really know if taking some time off after the baccalauréat or before starting our studies is a good idea, because I think that when we finish High School, we have some oportunities, that we have to catch, and if we don't catch it, we could regret, because we may not have them anymore. Morover, when we finish High School, we are still on the mood of working; so, if we stop working at this moment, we may be don't want to resume studies.

But in the other hand, we can have a gap year, because we don't like our job, or our studies, and we are doing an overdose; or completely different, because we want to enjoy life, and change of life for a while.

I think that when we take a gap year, we have to plan what we want to do, and not just say that we stop everything, because it would be even worse than before.

Afterward, I think that if we don't know yet what we want to do, we can have a gap year, because itcan help us get fresh ideas, take a new start...

Furthermore, we are young and we can take some time off and simply enjoy our youth, learn new things, expand our culture, and it can allow us to be open minded.

For my self, I wouldn't take a gap year, because I don't know if I could like it, and I would be scared to stop everything and change completely of life; even if it would be amazing.

  12. Hello !

I don't think I would take some time off after the baccalauréat for many reasons. First of all, it's very hard to go to the university or in any school after having spent a year not studying, as you've lost all your working habits. Sometimes, after the summer hollidays' two months of rest, it's hard to go back to school, so it must be really horrible to go back to school after a full year ! Then, I want to study law, and to become a judge you have to study during eight years, which is already a lot, so I will start to work quite late in my life, and I don't want to start even later. I want to start working and earning money by myself as quick as possible. Furthermore, if you spend your gap year doing nothing, it's just a waste of time. This is why I won't take any time off after the baccalauréat.

  14. Hello,

I think it's important to take some time off after exams to rest. But I'm sure that summer holidays are enough to do a great trip. I don't think it's a good idea to take a GAP year because during this year, you take risks.Indeed, you can forget some lessons and work methods would be lost.
Furthermore, it depends on the studies that you want to do (university, college, etc...) and the job that you want.
On the other hand, it's probably rewarding to travel around the world during 1 year (if you've got the money of course).

Thank you for reading and goodbye

  15. Hello,
After the baccalaureat I will continue my studies directly because I don't want to waste time but the sabbatical year is really a cool year because we can do what we want without having course for example travel, spend time with his friends or his family ... we should enjoy life because we don't know what is happening tomorrow. I would really like to do a sabbatical year but I know that if I do I would be much less motivated to go to study and I would like to enjoy but we have to work hard before have what we want so I will not make a sabbatical year even if I will like a lot!

  17. I think that after graduation I will probably take a year off before going to school so I can prepare for university and I won't have any unpleasant surprises and also to rest a little bit so I can go out with my friends and watch my shows without worrying about the time I have to go to bed to be ready in the morning and after this year's break I will be perfectly ready for school

  18. I think it's a very good idea to have some time off after the baccalaureat. It's just what I would need after these long years of studying and working at school. Indeed, during this gap year I could do whatever I would like to do. For example, I could travel around the world, I could start new activities, I could rest during a whole year or I simply could enjoy myself! It is up to me. But, most importantly, what I would do the most is spending time on my passion and mastering my craft.
    Have a good week!

  19. Hi!
As nice as it sounds, I don’t think I’d like to take some time off after high school !
A gap year can be something very enriching for people who were hard-working, or a little lost, or even feel adventurous! Travelling to other countries can be really easy thanks to some programs, especially if they speak English !

Though, for me, a gap year is unnecessary as I’m ready to work for my goal. Plainly speaking, I want to become a teacher or something related to foreign languages. I’m quite passionate about it and I believe it would be counterproductive not to start while I can. Besides, there are exchange programs like Erasmus which can combine what a gap year could provide and working.

On top of that, knowing my habits after school, I’d probably waste an entire year doing little things. School holidays provide enough time to rest and even during these, I get bored !
I’m much more comfortable having something to look forwards to, and on the side, hobbies or trips. It is easier for me to follow a set schedule than a homemade one, for now.
Perhaps, when I’m older and financially stable, I’ll plan taking a year off for myself.
