Marriage

Some say that to marry is a waste of time while for others it is essential to have a normal life. We can therefore wonder whether marriage is an old-fashioned institution without values. Is there still a reason to be married?

  1. Hi,
I think the reason why people got married before was mainly because it was kind of forced by the society and the rules imposed. It was especially hard for women, they didn't have all the rights we have nowadays and people around them would immediately assume that something is wrong with them if they were not married. On top of that, you could not choose your futur wife or husband most of the times. It has evolved a lot thorough the time and now marriage is something you can definitely live without even though it still is a kind of dream for some people and that's their right to believe that of course. Moreover, all kinds of couple exist and are accepted by the society now, more accepted than before at least, and it's not an obligation to get married and it's not a compelled step when you are in a relationship with someone. To conclude, I would say that marriage is not the thing you needed to do if you wanted to have a good life anymore but it still represents values and an accomplishment for some people and that's great for them.

  2. Hi,
Well for me, marriage is just really important for different reasons.
I personnaly want to get married one day. Actually in my family every couple is married. This was always the case in all the generations. And I personnaly don’t feel that I am obliged to get married because it is a family « tradition » but I think most of the girls want to see themselves wearing a long and beautiful dress for their wedding and I want too. It’s a bit early to talk about marriage because I am still to young but when someone ask me if you want to get married one day, I always reply yes. So I think even if it’s a family tradition, it’s not old-fashioned because there is still a lot of person that want to get married. A marriage for me is a true and concrete link to the person that you love. So to sum up, loving someone is great but being married to that person is an additional prove to your mutual love.

  3. Hello,
I think that marriage is really important, even though an increasing number of people seem to think that it's just some kind of useless paperwork.
First of all, marriage is a proof a your mutual love. All married people remember the day of their wedding as one of the greatest days in their lives !
Then, marriage has existed since the dawn of humanity, in all civilizations, which shows how important it has always been in every society.
Finally, marriage can be the basis of family life, as married people are more confident in their love, so they can have children and raise them successfully.
Sadly, this institution has lost its value nowadays : people divorce after only a few years of common live or don't marry at all, thinking that it has no place in our modern society. I don't share this point of view.

  4. Good evening,
I'm not really convinced that there is still a reason to be married other than to either follow a norm or show others that you're a 'unbreakable' couple and have a 'stable' life. Furthermore we've seen times and times again that the latter's rarely true.
I find marriage unnecessary and in some instances, particularly bothersome as it can become an excuse for anything. I don't mean that people shouldn't be married however they also shouldn't make it a bigger deal than it really is and claim it's the greatest achievement of life. In addition, from my parents' personal experience regarding marriage and, in my case love, I find that people are much happier when not wedded and free to leave their partner without any papers to fill out.
Although, and it may sound contradictory, I enjoy the fact that marriage is a proof of love, and I did dream about it.
Despite that, I still believe that marriage isn't very important and shouldn't be the ultimate proof of love.

  5. Hello !
For me, marriage is something really important in a life because it's the day you say in front of everyone that you have finally find the right person and that you love her. Also, you can see your family that you can't see during the year and everyone is sharing a great time. I want to get married because I would love to be a princess for one day, with a beautiful dress and a beautiful ring (diamond). To conclude, even if people think that is old-fashioned I don't care, I think it's one of the best day in a life.

  6. Hello my friend ,
I totally agree with everyone ,
There is still a reason to be married first, because for Christian men and woman , marriage is to row of the sacrament. You are ready for (to) show their love in front of love.
After, for some of us , marriage is safe , stability. For some of us , you make up one’s mind to prove their love , to assert their couple for example for the same-sex couples.
Next, the marriage is important for person who want their papers , it is a paper marriage but nowadays it is less common.
Then , the marriage is a girl’s dream. Every girl dream to wear a white, long and beautiful dress, with a bouquet of flowers.
To conclude , yes , there is still a reason to be married.

  7. Hello, I'm going to talk about marriage,
for me getting married is no longer a girl's dream, like a fairy-tale rather than a real engagement,
I absolutely do not criticize people who get married, I even later, I would like to get married but only for the pleasure of posting a dress and having all my friends and family together at the same time
I find that there is no need to marry to confirm the love we have for each other
    That's just my opinion
    See you

    Hello my friend,
I think for me, marriage is a good thing to do in life.
A marriage proves that we really love a person.
This summer it was my parents' wedding where I had a good time, surrounded by my family and the people my parents love.
It's a unique day in life (unless you get married several times, but it's customary to get married once).
The worst marriage is an arranged marriage, fortunately, nowadays, there are less and less than at the time ...

  9. I think getting married is important for some people because it is a proof of love and the woman takes the name of the husband, which brings her even closer to her husband's family. I think that marriage is not obligatory, but it is an important and happy event in a life that will always be remembered, even if it ends in divorce, it remains something beautiful.
People who say that marriage is a waste of time are people without a love affair or they must have been disappointed with their inner love life.

  10. I personally think that marriage can be a good a thing. It shows that you are ready to commit your life for someone and it is just beautiful. But it only works for people who really love each other, because it can become very tiresome if you don’t have real feelings for your spouse. That’s why you should always choose carefully the person you want to marry because it is a very important decision that will influence your life forever.

  11. Marriage is not required to have a "normal life".
For me, it can be romantic and it's a proof of love. But I'm not talking about the religious marriage, that can be boring and useless. The civil marriage is enough, and useful.
But two people can be in love for each other without being married.

  12. I think marriage is very important and I would like to get married, because marriage is proof of a deep love between two people. It is a mutual respect, a hope, a conviction of a happy and sustainable future. Moreover, I think that marriage is very important because a stable society without a family is not appropriate. But in my opinion, people who want to live in a common-law relationship is also acceptable, because two people who want to create something big and strong need feelings, trust, understanding and not "papers".

  13. Personally, I don't think I'll need marriage in my life. It is an important event in one's life, for sure, but I don't have any interests in it. In my opinion, marriage would refrain me from my life ( even if I know it's not much worth haha ). I can understand the act of getting married at a cityhall, it can be a way to show the world that you found the love of your life, and religiously speaking, marriage can be a way to fuse the love and the one of your partner you have towards the god (or the demon, I mean satanist weddings exist :3 )you worship.

  14. Hi, I have to say that I am quite divided on the question.
On the one hand, marriage still makes sense because even if today it is not something we have to do (to have children for example), we still do it. People get married out of love and later in life than in the past. It might be important for children to know that their parents committed to each other. It may bring a sense of security for some. Marriage rates are declining in many countries, yet people are ready to demonstrate and fight for same-sex marriage. So, apart of course for equal rights, it must mean that marriage stays popular.
On the other hand, we can notice that divorce rates are increasing and that many people choose not to get married. They either believe marriage is outdated or they are afraid of falling into the boring routine of married life. Today, we can lead a happy life without being married.
To conclude, married or not, the most important thing is to make our relationships last

  16. Hi everyone,

The question of marriage is complicated and depends on the country that we are talking about. In Europe, we are free to marry who we want and not being married is nowadays totally okay. But if you live in India, the situation is really different : for example arranged mariages are common and women are almost sold to a man in order to get married. Also women that are not married after a certain age are not seen with a good eye.
Nowadays, in Europe you can say that marriage is a proof of love and commitment which is beautiful even if the divorce rate is incrising.

  18. Hello,
I think so, it's important to get married, there are different reasons why we get married.
Marriage is a proof of our love, in addition to our days we can choose if we want to marry or not, whereas before we force us to marry with a married and not necessarily the one we like.
So when we get married we all have the same last name, and I think it's easier for kids have the same name as the parents. He did not have to get married for some people it is important for everyone to experience each other.
    That is my opinion.
