European Immigration

For decades European countries have been questioning immigration. Since then statistics show that immigration is a problem for Europe. Is immigration an opportunity or threat for Europe?

  1. Hi, I definitely don’t believe immigration should be seen as a threat for Europe. We live in a strange world where, on the one hand, people try to be connected, united and on the other hand they want stronger borders to prevent foreigners from asking for help on their territory.
I don’t think the question should be about immigration being an opportunity but rather about human rights and not letting people die.
Moreover, many people tend to forget that they themselves are descendants of immigrants who were lucky to find a place to settle. We all live on the same planet so it’s time to share it.

  2. Hi,
To my mind it’s not a question of threat at all. If Europ has decided to open it’s borders, I am sure that they thought about it a long time before approving it and so if Europ has open it’s borders I think it is a great idea to bring diversity to a country or to Europ. If one day Europ decides to close their borders, I think this choice will be of course well-thought and and I will respect their choice. But as far as Europ is open for foreigner it’s a great way to be sociable and to create a multicultural continent. If there is immigration, we need as European to give help to those in need and not let them suffer while we are free.

    Mayane.

  3. Hello,
I think that immigration isn't a threat at all for Europe, as long as the people who want to live in European countries agree with those countries' values, like secularism, freedom and equality. Indeed, European countries have always welcomed immigrants and they are a great part of European culture and identity. Famous and talented european artists (like Charles Aznavour whose parents came from Armenia) had foreign ancestors or came from foreign countries themselves. But in order for immigration to be effective, people have to accept to adopt a european lifestyle (which doesn't mean they should forget where they come from) and european values. As the saying goes, "when in Rome, do as Romans do".
