First of all, like the others said before me, this is a delicate subject so I am going to try to be the most careful and not to make mistakes in my comments. To start, for me there is a huge mistake in the problem, because its name “Are religions sexists” and then we have a quotation of the Bible; so why do we put a biblical quotation in a comment where we speak of religions with an “S”; but let’s say we didn’t see anything and go on with the subject. So, just for you to know I am Jewish, but also Muslim, and my parents learnt me the basics of these two faith, and this is why I am going to talk in majority for these two religions, but also a bit of the catholic religion, because I am growing up in France, a country that even if he is like now, it has been catholic for a lot of time, so there is a bit of catholic in the French culture. So after saying all this, let’s start To begin, being part of religion means that you believe in a god, his rules and tenets; after saying thing lets write about their gods, in each case: the Christianism is based on a Trinitarian god, the father, the son and the Holy Spirit, and the problem is there, we have the father and the son who are only male, and even if in the bible there is some women, the problem is that for Christian, the creator of the universe is their Father, so a man might think he is superior of a woman, because his god was a man and not a woman. For the Muslim the god has a name, Allah, but in reality apart for his name we don’t have any other info, we don’t know if he is a man or a woman, so even if in the Koran, the Muslim holy book, there is in majority man, woman should normally have the same place as a man and none of them should think he is superior. For the Jews, the god doesn’t have a specific gender, but also don’t have a real name except of his Tetragrammaton, YHWH, because Jewish isn’t allowed to say god name; and like for the Muslims, even if in the holy book of Jewish, Torah, there is more man than woman, god don’t have gender so everyone is the same. To conclude, we only spoke about the god and the holy books, but we already saw some aspects of what we can call sexism, so what I think is that we don’t need to go deep to see that the religion have a good part but also have huge sexist part, but why do they all have a sexist part?
